COMPANY

History

Niblock was founded in 1959 as a Carpentry & Joinery contractor by Mr. Joseph Niblock. By the early 1960’s, Niblock had begun to venture into general building contracting; working primarily for the Greater London Council and local authorities, and undertaking an element of new construction of flats and houses close to their workshop in Anerley, South East London.

During the late 1970’s, Niblock decided to intensify its efforts on general building, and as a result, the carpentry division gradually declined. This concentration on general building led to the company being approved by most London local authorities, numerous housing associations and selected private clients. By the early 1980’s, Niblock’s reputation as a contractor that delivered what was promised had become recognised widely, and this helped to forge the relationships Niblock enjoyed with major consultants within the industry; private enterprises; housing associations; and local authorities.

It was in the early 1980‘s that the present Managing Director, Martin Waters, began his association with the company. Martin joined Niblock as a Quantity Surveyor, but his talents were quickly recognised by the Board of Directors and he was soon promoted to Director. In 1992, the Directors were considering retirement and Martin recognised that Niblock had a good reputation and considerable potential. He therefore made the decision to take the bold step of buying out the retiring Directors. Martin’s aim was to retain the positive and traditional elements that were associated with Niblock, but also inject foresight and a positive attitude. This approach proved to be the turning point in the company‘s success.

Today, Niblock has a turnover in excess of £15 million and a healthy order book for the future, with repeat business being the cornerstone of the Company’s turnover. Niblock undertakes a full range of construction refurbishment services: ranging from traditional forms of contract, to formal Partnering Agreements. The Company’s success is attributed to its professional management and the employment of first class supervisory staff. Indeed, what sets Niblock apart from its competitors is its extremely high staff retention rate and very loyal workforce.
