William Joins Niblock!

Welcome William!

We are delighted to have a new member within the Niblock team. Following the completion of his BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying degree at the University of Portsmouth, William Rayner is joining Niblock in the role of Trainee Surveyor. He follows in the footsteps of his father, Stephen Rayner, who has worked for Niblock for 18 years as a Senior Surveyor.

“After working at Niblock for experience during the summer holidays throughout my degree, I am very pleased to now join the team as Trainee Surveyor.I’m looking forward to progressing my knowledge and career with Niblock.”

William.

We wish William lots of luck in his new role! We are confident that he will be a great asset to the company and our ever-expanding team.

Oasis Academy

In partnership with the Construction Youth Trust (CYT), we were pleased to take part in a Careers Networking Event at Oasis Academy South Bank! Students were able to meet with volunteers from the Construction Industry and learn about their career journeys and get an insight into some of the roles available to into construction and the different paths you can take. We hope the event organised through the CYT has inspired the students from Year 10 to consider the Construction Industry as a potential career.

Norbury School

As part of National Careers Week, Niblock were pleased to attend Norbury School for Girls yesterday for a Careers Evening for the Sixth Form.

This was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to learn about what opportunities are available to them and how to enter the world of Construction.

Not Just For Boys

We were delighted to take part in a ‘Not Just for Boys’ session at St Martin in the Fields School for Girls, highlighting various careers in the construction industry and with the aim of breaking down the stereotypical view that many of these career paths are just for men!

Women in the UK currently make up just a small proportion of the construction industry workforce, which has been historically male dominated. It is therefore important to encourage more women to join the industry, making it a more inclusive profession. It is a large and varied field, with numerous opportunities.

The event at St Martins School was a fantastic opportunity to work with young women who will soon be embarking on new chapters post sixth form and could potentially form the new generation of workers in our industry.

The session involved a Q&A between the girls and various individuals who have careers in the construction industry along with a debate about why women should enter the industry.

On International Women’s Day, and every day, it is important to recognise the significant value that women bring to the workforce.

Joan Hughes Court

With the project now complete at the retirement living village of Joan Hughes Court, and after two and a half years of works, we are delighted with the result!

The project involved remodelling 73Nr existing bedsits into 61Nr 1 and 2 bedroom self-contained flats. Particular attention was centred on ensuring that the residents have communal spaces and areas of engagement such as visitors’ accommodation, communal lounge, kitchen, laundry, games, reading and hobby rooms. The goal was to provide bright and welcoming spaces for residents and their friends and family to spend quality time.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Niblock Building Contractors at Joan Hughes Court and we are delighted with the end result. I have to commend the way you have carried out the project during such a testing time and look forward to working with you again on future projects.” – David Skipper, Lawson Queay

This project came with its challenges when COVID-19 spread globally in March 2020, causing the project to be shut down, not once but twice, thus extending our programme. For all parties involved, it was imperative that we maintained residents’ safety whilst works were completed. Indeed, prior to works being carried out, a pilot scheme was devised to remodel 2Nr flats. This gave full understanding of the challenges that the project presented and enabled us to adopt a coordinated approach to work with vulnerable residents.

Working together with our Client, Wealden District Council, and our Project Administrator, Lawson Queay, we put measures in place to achieve a safe working environment and in turn completed the scheme safely and to an excellent standard.

“Thanks to the Niblock team for all your hard work and the lovely, refurbished building we have now. Enjoy your next project, may it be in more stable times without another pandemic to test you!” – Wealden Council

We were also very pleased to receive the following feedback from residents, particularly given the challenging times that works were carried out in:
‘Thank you for all your help throughout the time. You have been our coordinator and friend.’ – Resident
‘Your helpful correspondence on everything that has been going on has been invaluable’ – Resident

Southwood Court

Following our recent completion of the External Repairs and Renovations at Southwood Court we are pleased to have received excellent feedback from the Contracts Administrator, Robert Martell, and as a thank you to the Residents held an Open Day with light refreshments.

“Niblock were contractors for the external refurbishment and renovation of windows, brickwork and roofing for a listed estate in Hampstead.

From the outset, Niblock were brilliant in liaising with residents regarding their H&S policies and the method statements associated with the carrying out of the works. Throughout the 7 month contract Niblock maintained a safe site with no incidents reported.

Niblock were proactive in addressing ongoing design, scope and costs issues with regular cost updates throughout the project. Every month Niblock prepared an updated programme that was appropriately adapted to accommodate additional works and essential variations. Niblock achieved the agreed Practical Completion date of 31st August and provided a project of excellent quality which more that satisfied Hampstead Gardens Suburbs Trust and left happy tenants enjoying their new surroundings.
An exceptional management team and group of Subcontractors.

I have no hesitation in commending Niblock to private landlords and social landlord clients for renovation and refurbishment projects.” Robert Martell

World Mental Health Day

This year, we joined up with Mates in Mind Mental Health Charity with the aim of improving positive mental wellbeing amongst our employees and more widely to address the stigma of poor mental health within the construction industry.

To coincide with #WMHD on Sunday 10th October 2021, we have today issued a Wellbeing Pulse Survey to all employees to help us better understand the needs of our employees and to further improve our mental health support resources within Niblock.

We hope that other organisations will join us in checking in on their employees and take part in this interantional awareness event.

SEC Marketing Committee

Our Business Development Executive, Katie Stallard has recently been appointed to form part of the first SEC Marketing Committee.

Katie is one of ten people appointed from across the SEC’s Framework Service providers, each with professional experience that together will bring unique and important perspective to the group.

The aim of the committee is to work together to raise the profile of SEC Frameworks in new and imaginative ways. The group isn’t framework specific and is looking forward to coming together to share creative ideas.

The first meeting is today, where the group objectives will be set and they will begin looking at the groups direction for the future.

Creating Hope Through Action

To help raise awareness for World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September 2021, we invited the Niblock team to light a candle and show their support. We are pleased to share some of the images sent in.

According to the Chartered Institute of Building, up to 26% of construction industry professionals thought about taking their life in 2019. These statistics need to change.

We recently joined up with Mates in Mind Mental Health Charity to improve positive mental wellbeing among our workforce and the wider construction industry.

It is important that we all work together to break down the stigma of poor mental health.
