Christmas Party

Following our contribution to the Joan Hughes Residents Association’s Christmas Party, we were delighted to be invited to join them for the festive celebrations!

Sporting Memories

We were proud to support Sporting Memories and Sussex Cricket Foundation by funding the hiring of the Polegate Community Centre for 40 weeks so that older sports fans can get together to talk sport, promoting physical and mental well-being through reminicsing. Sport is used to try and combat loneliness and isolation, giving those joining in the chance to make new friends. When our works have completed at Joan Hughes Court, it is hoped that the group will be brought to the retirement living in the communal lounge area.

Poplar Works

Poplar Works opened its doors to the public on Saturday 8th June. Tours were organised to give local residents, potential end users and funders the opportunity to look around the soon-to-open fashion hub for the first time. Around 45 local people and businesses visited throughout the day to see some of the low cost business units, the manufacturing hall and various training spaces.

Poplar Works is a partnership project between Poplar HARCA, London College of Fashion, UAL and The Trampery. The affordable low cost workspaces and free training programmes have been designed to create a new fashion education hub and to bring fashion back to its home in the East End.

Dementia Action Week

Firm supporters of #DementiaActionWeek (20-26th May 2019). We are supporting Sporting Memories and Sussex Cricket Foundation by funding the hiring of the Polegate Community Centre for 40 weeks so that older sports fans can get together to talk sport, promoting physical and mental well-being through reminicsing. Sport is used to try and combat loneliness and isolation, giving those joining in the chance to make new friends. When works have completed at Joan Hughes Court, it is hoped that the group will be brought to the retirement living in the communal lounge area.

Work Placement

We were pleased to organise a day work placement for a group of students from South Norwood Harris Academy, who are undertaking Product Design Studies as one of their GCSEs, to gain an understanding of how product design is relevant in the real world, and in particular the Construction Industry. Liam Stanhope, Health and Safety Manager, and Myles Pitt, Assistant Site Manager, oversaw the placement and gave the students an insight into the Fashioning Poplar Scheme, the works carried out and information about H&S and project management.

We were delighted to receive positive feedback from South Norwood Harris Academy: ‘Thank you again for inviting and hosting us so wonderfully, the tour and hospitality you showed us all was brilliant and the boys absolutely loved it… I look forward to the next visit with Niblock and cannot wait to see the Fashion Academy in action in the spaces you’ve created.’
