95 Years of the Pitts

This year marks 70 years since Her Royal Majesty The Queen acceeded to the throne.

70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom.

We may not ever have an employee match this incredible milestone figure, however, The Pitt family are close contenders. This year, they will be celebrating 95 years of service to Niblock between them!

Myles Pitt joined Niblock over 7 years ago, proudly following in the footsteps of his Father, Marcus, and Grandfather, Bob, who both joined the team in 1980 and 1964 respectively!

With Marcus approaching his 43rd year with Niblock, he is closely catching up to his Father’s impressive 45 years of dedication to the company before he retired in 2009.

We are extremely proud to have had three generations of the Pitt family work for Niblock and are grateful for all their contributions over 95 years of employment. Their continued commitment reflects the traditional values we hold and is a testament to the culture and work ethic within our whole team.

In 2025, The Pitts will reach the 100 year milestone, an event that we as a company will definitely be celebrating!

Fire Door Safety Week 2022

Fire Door Safety Week (31st October – 4th November 2022) is an opportunity to highlight the critical role that fire doors play in protecting both life and property, and to raise awareness of routinely checking the operation and condition of existing fire doors.

Niblock are currently carrying out significant fire door replacement works throughout London and the South East. Works typically involve the replacement of fire rated FEDS, communal and service doors. In conjunction to the fire door works, we have also been carrying out FR compartmentation works and associated fire stopping.

Maritime Roof Works

Niblock carried out high-level patent roof glazing repairs to an office in Chatham Maritime.

Our team of IPAF and IRATA certified technicians carried out the technical removal and replacement of defective members within the patent glazing system in order to rectify ongoing and worsening leaks and improve the drainage of rainwater from the glazed surface. Our team carried out the works out of normal working hours to ensure the building users were not affected.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Every year we are proud to support Macmillan Cancer Support and host a #macmillancoffeemorning and bake off at our head office to raise money for the charity to continue their work supporting those living with cancer.

Thank you to everyone who took part this year by baking delicious goods and for making much appreciated donations.

Congratulations to Gabrielle Wood for being awarded this vear’s title of star baker!

Maddie Rose Day

Today, we are showing our support of the Maddie Rose Campaign by adopting its logo for Maddie’s Day!

The campaign aims to shine a spotlight on the vast range of careers with the construction industry and inspire diverse, young talent to access these opportunities.

The initiative was set up in memory of Maddie Rose Hollamby, an inspirational young woman who was dedicated to showcasing careers within the sector and highlight their benefits to other young people, so that they could develop through it as she had herself and reach their full potential.

To honour Maddie’s legacy, the CYT has developed a Hidden Careers Programme in partnership with the wider construction community, which aims to encourage young people and help them access opportunities across the sector.

We actively supported this programme by providing a relatable role model to attend one of their school sessions, at Oasis Academy South Bank, and saw firsthand how much of an impact it can have on the school children.

We invite others to similarly adopt the logo and ‘turn yellow’ for the day to help keep Maddie’s legacy alive!

The Big Build

Niblock joined forces with Construction Youth Trust (CYT) to deliver The Big Build at St Saviour’s and St Olave’s School!

Nine inspirational sessions were held over five months for a group of young ladies from Year 9. Their project task was to plan, budget, pitch and negotiate the price of materials to build a handcrafted bench for the school. The sessions were designed to have maximum impact on the student’s future career aspirations whilst gaining key skills and meeting inspirational industry professionals!

The Big Build Case Study

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your support with the Big Build session at St Saviour’s & St Olave’s school with my Year 9 group; the students loved it!

It really brings the industry to life when our students meet people that actually work in construction.

This project is so important – the group, as you know, have diverse academic ability, so the support you gave, for example, during the maths-led materials costing exercise, really contributed to their confidence, and understanding, whilst doing that most precious thing of connecting school subjects to future jobs. Honestly, you were great! I appreciate you.” – Wendy Heller, Senior Construction Skills Manager

Jordan’s Site Visit

This week, Jordan, our head office-based Team Administrator, attended our Southwark Hostels Refurbishment Contract to help expand upon her awareness of construction sites as part of her training. Jordan was able to see first-hand how some of the materials she procures are integrated within projects. It was also a fantastic opportunity for Jordan to see a different side of the business and meet the site operatives in person.

“As a young woman working within the construction industry, and specifically within procurement, it was a great opportunity to see how materials were being integrated into the project, as well as the specific use of plant on site. The site team provided me with a detailed insight into some of the logistical challenges and now that I have a better understanding I can ensure that materials and plant are sourced and delivered with these challenges in mind.

I am looking forward to the opportunity to learn and make a difference at Niblock.” Jordan

In partnership with the Construction Youth Trust (CYT), we were pleased to take part in a Careers Networking Event at Oasis Academy South Bank! Students were able to meet with volunteers from the Construction Industry and learn about their career journeys and get an insight into some of the roles available to into construction and the different paths you can take. We hope the event organised through the CYT has inspired the students from Year 10 to consider the Construction Industry as a potential career.
