Niblock Charity Skydive

On Sunday 6th August, a group of seven brave employees from Niblock Building Contractors are reaching new heights and taking part in a sky dive at The Aerodrome in Ashford to raise money for Fresh Visions.

Fresh Visions Charity supports children, young people and adults predominantly in Kent, Sussex, South London and the Midlands, who face extreme disadvantage as a result of poverty, domestic abuse, a lack of education and social exclusion. Fresh Visions’ projects help them to achieve their potential through developing their confidence, motivation and skillset, with the aim of building brighter futures.

In the last 24 months alone, they have engaged with and supported 980 people across their programmes. 60% of whom are female, and 64% are from BAME (Black, Asian and minority ethnic) backgrounds.

Please help support the Charity continue their fantastic work by donating on our Just Giving page:

Men’s Mental Health Week

Following #MensMentalHealthWeek, we wanted to share some information about a workshop we attended that we were kindly invited to by #TheCliveSmithFoundation

The workshop was run by Ryan Parke, founder of #TheMensCoach

Together with a roomful of leaders, we looked at the main factors that influence male wellness and key strategies men can use for better mental health, physical health and life expectancy!

Ryan’s workshop is based on evidence from ground breaking studies and science. He focuses on the endocrine system and the role it plays when it comes to mental health.

We learnt a lot from Ryan at #TheMensCoach and would recommend his workshop to everyone – men and women. It was a real eye opener, providing essential information about how you can support a friend, family member or colleague in need, which is vital when 3/4 deaths from suicide in the UK are Men!

A big thank you to #TheCliveSmithFoundation for inviting us and Ryan Parke for preparing such an inclusive (and what we think should be an essential) session in the mental health industry for everyone!

Managing Director Celebrates 40 Years

Managing Director Celebrates 40 Years at Niblock!

“I feel a great sense of pride looking back at my 40-year career at Niblock. I have witnessed many changes within the company and cherish all the memories I have gained along the way. Over the years, we have been involved in a variety of exciting contracts, one highlight that has stayed with me includes designing the first office for the Premier League at the FA’s 15 Lancaster Gate.

I remember the early days clearly, when polaroid cameras were used for surveys because the 35mm film in cameras took 3 days to develop and print!

However, despite the vast changes, I am proud to say that the ethos that guided Niblock from the beginning continues to be a driving force today. We have been fortunate to have a loyal and dedicated workforce both on our sites and at head office. Multiple generations of families work together within our team and we are proud that so many of our employees have chosen to build their own careers with us and also recommend the company to their sons and daughters, which is a testament to the culture within Niblock.

Niblock have a bright future ahead thanks to our dedicated team, strong values and commitment to innovation and I am confident we will continue to make a positive impact within the construction industry.”

Inspiring a New Generation into Construction

We are passionate about the vast opportunities that the construction sector offers young people. This week, during #nationalcareersweek 2023, we have highlighted a few of the recent careers events we have been involved with.

The Career’s Networking Workshop at St John’s Catholic Comprehensive was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the wide range careers available within the construction industry and the different career pathways.

Mock Interview Workshop – CYT

This week, as part of National Career’s Week (6th-11th March 2023) we will be highlighting some of the recent careers events we have been involved with, aiming to help young people explore their career options and providing them with valuable feedback as they prepare to enter the working world.

Mock Interview Workshop – Construction Youth Trust (CYT)

We recently attended the Construction Youth Trust offices to carry out a Mock Interview Session with a group of young NET’s (young people Not in Education, Employment or Training). In this session, the interviewers asked the interviewees a series of questions based around the role/profession they are interested in starting a career in. We were then able to provide constructive feedback on the following:

Body Language/Eye Contact

Fullness of Answers

Enthusiasm

Appropriate Clothing for Interviews

We hope that the tailored and direct feedback has reduced any possible anxiety about the interview process and has boosted the confidence of the young people as they apply for different job opportunities.

National Careers Week

Earlier this year, Katie, our Business Development & Social Value Manager, partnered with Construction Youth Trust to carry out a workshop with a group of sixth form students. The session focused on professionalism and aimed to teach the young people about the key skills they will need in order to successfully navigate the world of work, including:

  • Key values as an individual and in the workplace.
  • Workplace etiquette and how to uphold professionalism.
  • Communication with colleagues and external clients.
  • The importance of networking.

“Katie played an integral part in this fun and lively session, introducing herself and the work of Niblock confidently, while encouraging engagement from the young people throughout. We covered a range of topics including how to demonstrate integrity and respect in the workplace and Katie gave excellent examples of how to deal with various workplace pressures all while remaining polite and professional. It was clear the young people appreciated the insights she could offer.” – Charlie Dawson, Schools and Programme Coordinator, Construction Youth Trust.

CV Surgery Workshop – CYT

Katie, our Business Development & Social Value Manager, attended the Construction Youth Trust’s offices on 10th January 2023 to assist three young NEETS (Young People Not in Education, Employment or Training) in writing and adapting their CV’s and Cover Letters to enable them to apply for apprenticeship positions.

Katie worked with the young people to understand the specific roles they hope to apply for so that she could help them adapt their CV’s to give them the best possible chance to gain an interview. She also offered some valuable advice and tips regarding how candidates should conduct themselves during an interview, focusing on body language, eye contact and appropriate business attire.
